Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga recently highlighted the significant infrastructure developments initiated by President Bola Tinubu throughout the nation. During an inspection of the Makurdi–Otukpo–Obolo-Affor–Enugu dual carriageway in Benue State, Onanuga noted that the road project is already delivering substantial benefits by reducing travel time between major towns.
Onanuga stated that the journey from Makurdi to Otukpo, which previously took three hours, has been halved to approximately 90 minutes. He praised the administration for its widespread focus on road and bridge construction, noting that these improvements are vital for linking the North Central and South East regions. This enhanced connectivity is expected to stimulate commercial activity and facilitate the easier movement of goods and passengers across state borders.
Federal Controller of Works for Benue State, Mukaila Danladi, provided further technical details on the 258-kilometre road project. The highway, which spans Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and Enugu states, is currently divided into five construction sections. Despite seasonal challenges posed by the rainy season, progress on the binder course has reached 86 kilometres. Danladi confirmed that work remains active, with contractors focusing on drainage and hydraulic structures. The project, executed by China Harbour Engineering Company with funding from the China EXIM Bank and the Federal Government, is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
