Law enforcement officers in Bauchi State have taken two men into custody for alleged cattle rustling. Authorities recovered three bulls worth N1.73 million within the Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The individuals, 40-year-old Umaru Adamu (also known as Balawo) and 30-year-old Haruna Usman (also known as Dotti), are residents of Dawo Village in Gombe State’s Kwami Local Government Area. They were apprehended on July 19, 2026.
SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, noted that the arrests occurred around 2 pm, facilitated by reliable intelligence received by the Alkaleri Police Division. Initial inquiries indicate that the suspects acquired the animals from two accomplices who remain on the run. These fugitives are accused of regularly targeting communities situated between Gombe and Bauchi states.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered a thorough search to locate the remaining suspects. Meanwhile, the seized cattle are being held as evidence while the two men currently in custody undergo further questioning. The police command continues to encourage the public to share useful tips to help reduce criminal activity across the region.
