Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and political figure, has condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for blocking the Osun State government’s main account just before a governorship election. Through his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku stated that this maneuver threatens democratic principles and compromises the neutrality of state agencies.
He emphasized that stopping the movement of state funds during a critical election window disrupts governance, halts salary payments, and threatens essential services. Atiku argued that even if investigations are necessary, legal procedures must be followed without creating the appearance of political bias or manipulation. He claimed that this action is part of a broader trend under President Bola Tinubu’s administration where federal powers are allegedly used to undermine opposition-led states.
Highlighting past issues with withheld local government funds in Osun, Atiku warned that such tactics weaken public trust. He called upon all involved agencies to act with neutrality and urged citizens and opposition parties to oppose the use of government institutions as tools for political intimidation.
