Aston Villa engaged in negotiations for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha

Aston Villa is in discussions with Bayern Munich to sign 31-year-old midfielder Joao Palhinha following a long-term injury to Amadou Onana.

Aston Villa is currently pursuing a deal to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha to the club. The 31-year-old Portuguese international emerged as a priority target following a serious right knee ACL injury sustained by Amadou Onana during the World Cup while representing Belgium.

Although the player has not finalized his decision, insiders suggest that a transfer to Villa Park is considered a strong possibility. Bayern Munich is prepared to facilitate an exit for the midfielder, just two years after acquiring him from Fulham for a fee of £47.4 million. Palhinha previously spent time on loan at Tottenham, though the club ultimately chose not to activate his £26 million purchase clause.

Villa’s director of football, Damian Vidagany, acknowledged the active discussions during an interview with German media outlet Bild. He noted that while the player is a great fit for their tactical setup, no official deal has been reached yet. The club is looking to bolster its roster following a busy summer that saw departures including Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Lucas Digne. To replenish their ranks, Villa has secured several new arrivals, such as Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Gomes.
