The Oyo State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that Governor Seyi Makinde will eventually face scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-corruption bodies. The party maintains that the governor will eventually be required to justify all financial allocations managed by his administration since he assumed office in 2019.
This stance follows a Wednesday ruling by a Federal High Court in Ibadan, which determined that the EFCC lacks the legal authority to probe the financial activities of the current Oyo State government. Despite this judicial decision, the APC remains firm in its belief that the agency will fulfill its mandate when the moment is right.
In a statement issued Thursday by Publicity Secretary Wasiu Sadare, the opposition party expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s verdict and criticized Governor Makinde for seeking to restrict the investigative powers of federal anti-graft institutions. The APC questioned why the governor would resist financial transparency if his administration had nothing to conceal. The statement emphasized that regardless of the current legal outcome, the governor’s efforts to evade oversight will not prevent an eventual audit of his tenure.
