Amy Hunt and Romell Glave Secure National 100m Crowns

Amy Hunt defended her 100m crown and Romell Glave earned his first national title as the UK Athletics Championships got underway in Birmingham.

The UK Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham saw Amy Hunt successfully defend her women’s 100m title. Recording the second-fastest time of her career, Hunt crossed the line in 11.01 seconds. Although Dina Asher-Smith led early, Hunt surged ahead to win, while Asher-Smith finished second in 11.13 and Mabel Akande secured third with a personal best of 11.18.

In the men’s 100m, Romell Glave claimed his first British championship title. Glave achieved a sub-10-second run for the first time in official competition, clocking 9.98 seconds. Zharnel Hughes took silver in 10.01, followed by Louie Hinchliffe and Jeremiah Azu.

Olympic 800m gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson advanced to the 400m final after clocking 51.62 seconds, while Matthew Hudson-Smith moved into the men’s 400m final as the fastest qualifier. Additionally, Joel Clarke-Khan marked an emotional comeback from injury by winning the high jump with a personal best of 2.27 metres.

The competition also featured record-breaking performances from Marcia Sey, who won the 100m hurdles in 12.65 seconds, and Elise Thorner, who set a new mark in the 3000m steeplechase. Lawrence Okoye claimed the discus title with a championship record of 68.81 metres, and Stephen Mackenzie set a Scottish long jump record of 8.15 metres.
