Amnesty International has officially denounced a violent overnight raid on Naridon Village in the Kamaru Ward of Kauru, Kaduna State, which resulted in the deaths of at least 30 individuals. The group characterized this event as one of the most severe assaults on Southern Kaduna communities witnessed in recent memory.
Armed attackers raided the village on Monday evening, targeting residents within their homes and tracking down others who attempted to seek refuge in the surrounding brush. Reports indicate that numerous people remain missing, and search operations are currently underway to locate additional victims among houses and farmlands.
The organization released alarming findings from the site, documenting instances where entire families were murdered within their private residences. Among the evidence were graphic details of children with slit throats and significant injuries. Traces of blood were found throughout homes, indicating victims were attacked while attempting to flee.
This massacre occurred despite promises from President Bola Tinubu regarding the security of rural areas. Amnesty International stated that the government has failed to ensure the safety of its citizens, noting that the ongoing violence reflects a broader inability to protect vulnerable populations or prosecute perpetrators. The organization emphasized that this lack of accountability continues to embolden those responsible for the bloodshed.
