Rashid Afegbua, the recently appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone Six in Calabar, has instructed all Investigating Police Officers to perform their duties with integrity, objectivity, and precision. During his address to zonal personnel on August 4, 2026, he emphasized the importance of high investigative standards.
To enforce these requirements, Afegbua ordered DCP Abiodun Bakare and other supervisors to provide rigorous oversight and quality control for all ongoing investigations. He explicitly stated that officers must distinguish between civil and criminal matters, noting that civil disputes should not be processed as criminal cases.
Highlighting the financial burden caused by garnishee orders stemming from faulty investigations, the AIG called for a return to the core principles of the Nigeria Police Force, including discipline and accountability. Furthermore, he prohibited the unnecessary transfer of case files from State Commands to Zonal Headquarters. He clarified that the Zonal office should only intervene to conduct new investigations or review progress reports, and he warned that ignoring this rule will lead to disciplinary action.
