Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has claimed that his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, was behind the move to have state government bank accounts blocked by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Adeleke revealed this during an Arise TV town hall event focused on the state’s upcoming governorship race.
The governor asserted that Oyetola, currently serving as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, falsely informed the EFCC that President Bola Tinubu had authorized the freeze. Adeleke stated that the situation shifted only after a direct conversation with the President, who expressed embarrassment over the incident and rejected such actions. According to Adeleke, the President emphasized his commitment to maintaining democratic integrity and ensuring fair electoral processes.
Adeleke further contended that Oyetola is utilizing his proximity to President Tinubu to advance personal political agendas in Osun, suggesting that the former governor has yet to move past his previous election loss. Adeleke is currently preparing for the August 15, 2026, gubernatorial election as he seeks a second term.
