The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is actively pursuing a strategy to organize an opposition alliance aimed at defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed that efforts to unify various opposition factions remain ongoing.
According to Abdullahi, the ADC remains committed to the belief that a consolidated opposition is essential to effectively challenge the current administration. Despite previous setbacks, the party maintains that the opportunity for a broad coalition is still viable. Abdullahi noted that the ADC initiated these discussions and continues to view collective action as the opposition’s most effective path toward electoral victory.
This renewed focus follows the withdrawal of prominent figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, from earlier coalition efforts. These individuals left the ADC in May 2025 to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), pointing to internal disagreements and legal challenges as reasons for their departure. Since that split, the ADC has solidified its own leadership ticket, nominating former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate, with former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi serving as his running mate.
