Authorities in Adamawa State have taken two men into custody on allegations of masterminding a fraudulent scheme that involved selling imitation mobile devices to the public. The operation relied on a distributed group of agents working throughout the region.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police spokesperson, identified the accused as Audu Abubakar and Nasiru Hassan, both of whom live on Bauchi Street in the Yola North Local Government Area. The arrests followed reports from several individuals who realized their purchased devices were merely non-functional replicas rather than genuine equipment.
Law enforcement officials seized various dummy units and other pieces of evidence during the arrest. Police Commissioner Kabiru Hassan has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, stating that the pair will face legal action once the inquiry finishes. The command is now advising residents to exercise caution and purchase electronics exclusively from authorized retailers to mitigate the risk of fraud.
