The Nigeria Customs Service, Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has seized a significant haul of illegal goods, including elephant tusks, pangolin scales, donkey skins, cannabis, and fuel. The total Duty Paid Value for these items is reported at N362,204,543.91.
Area Comptroller Mohammed Aminu Tanko announced the results during a Wednesday press conference in Yola. He stated that these seizures are part of an intensified campaign against smuggling and border-related crimes. Over the past month and a half, the command has focused on using intelligence to protect national resources and the economy.
Notable operations include the June 9 interception of a DAF trailer carrying a Sany motor grader that was being moved toward Chad. Beyond this heavy equipment, officers recovered over 25,000 liters of fuel, nearly 75 kilograms of pangolin scales, and substantial quantities of donkey products and cannabis. Five suspects are currently in custody awaiting prosecution.
Comptroller Tanko noted that these actions adhere to the Nigeria Customs Service Act of 2023 and international environmental agreements. He issued a firm warning to smugglers, emphasizing that the agency will continue to prioritize legal trade and the dismantling of criminal syndicates.
