A group of 37 Nigerian citizens arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after being repatriated from Türkiye. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed their arrival on Monday, noting that the individuals landed on a chartered flight following coordination with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Upon their arrival, NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office organized a structured reception process involving several humanitarian organizations and government bodies. The returnees underwent documentation, health screenings, and received immediate aid to support their transition back into the country. These individuals will now be handed over to relevant authorities to assist with their full reintegration into society.
Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, who heads the NEMA Abuja Operations Office, spoke at the event to emphasize the agency’s dedication to the well-being of repatriated Nigerians. He encouraged the returnees to view this as a new chapter, urging them to follow local laws and utilize government programs designed for their support. He also commended the collaborative efforts of the immigration services, refugee commission, and other security partners involved in the operation.
This initiative aligns with the broader federal mandate to provide aid to Nigerians facing challenges while abroad. The recent arrival adds to other similar missions, including the return of 123 Nigerians from Algeria in June and 181 individuals from Libya in April, both of which were conducted under assisted voluntary return programs.
