The Abia State Police Command recently took 13 individuals into custody for various criminal acts, including armed robbery, illegal weapons possession, and the destruction of state infrastructure. DSP Maureen Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, detailed these operations in a briefing on Wednesday.
Officers from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) identified and detained 27-year-old Uchenna Agbneiwu for vandalism. During the arrest, police seized a white Toyota Hiace bus containing pipeline components hidden under sawdust. Authorities are continuing their search for additional accomplices involved in this crime.
In a separate incident on August 2, 2026, VCRU agents in Aba North arrested Williams Ifeanyi. He is accused of threatening a pedestrian at gunpoint near Market Road to steal their personal items. Police recovered a pistol and live ammunition from the suspect. Furthermore, the Urratta Divisional Police station apprehended John Chigozie and David Anyaka for their alleged participation in an armed robbery at an Aba hotel on August 1, 2026, where officers confiscated a firearm and rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, acting on tips, VCRU officers in Bende Road raided a meeting of a criminal cult group in Umuezeagwu, Umuahia North. Police seized a collection of weapons and illicit materials, including a pump-action shotgun, a Beretta pistol, a cutlass, an axe, walkie-talkies, and suspected narcotics. Investigations into these cases remain active.
