Abia State police have arrested Agwu Ukpo for assaulting Amarachi Chinyere in a dispute over a pot of soup, with plans to charge him in court soon.

The Abia State Police Command has taken 37-year-old Agwu Ukpo into custody following a viral video that showed him attacking a woman. The suspect, a native of Akanu Ohafia, allegedly assaulted Amarachi Chinyere after a disagreement regarding a pot of soup in Aba.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the Abia Police, confirmed that the arrest was executed by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) using intelligence gathered by the force. Currently, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is handling the case, and officials have promised that formal charges will be filed once the inquiry is complete.

Authorities have firmly denounced the incident as an act of inhumane domestic violence. The command emphasized that such conduct is intolerable and warned citizens to avoid violence, promising that the law will hold all offenders accountable.
