Mohammed Azare, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, has issued a stern warning to personnel assigned to special duty for the upcoming Osun State elections. He explicitly prohibited officers from engaging in misconduct, which includes the consumption of alcohol while on duty, voter intimidation, or extortion.
Before their departure, the Commissioner instructed the force to adhere strictly to the social media guidelines set by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu. Officers are barred from sharing, streaming, or posting any images or commentary regarding the election that could jeopardize security protocols or damage the reputation of the police.
Regarding logistics, the Commissioner stated that the Inspector-General has fully arranged transport for the deployment and return of all personnel. He warned commanders against soliciting funds from subordinates for travel expenses, noting that such demands must be reported immediately. Any officer caught participating in illegal collections or violating official orders will face formal disciplinary proceedings.
Finally, Commissioner Azare urged the team to maintain strict neutrality and professionalism. He emphasized that they are representatives of the Nigeria Police Force and must resist any influence from political candidates or parties, reiterating that the organization has already covered all necessary transit costs.
