Police Arrest Anti-Cult Operative After Stray Bullet Kills 19-Year-Old Nurse in Delta
Police have arrested a member of the Delta State Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps for fatally shooting a 19-year-old auxiliary nurse in the Okpanam area of Asaba.
The corps, inaugurated by the state police command in 2022 to help curb crime, is now at the center of the tragic incident.
The victim, identified as Isioma Nwayalani, was returning from work on the evening of Saturday, March 8, 2025, when she was accidentally shot.
The incident occurred when one of the anti-cult officers was stepping out of a vehicle, and his gun discharged, striking the young woman.
“She was returning from work to Asaba in the evening when she was k!lled by a bullet from a gunshot by a member of the anti-cult group. The girl was rushed immediately to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed d3ad hours later,” a source narrated.
The spokesperson of the command, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the anti-cult member had been arrested and was currently in custody.
“Yes, it’s confirmed. We are investigating to unravel the circumstances behind the shooting.”
