A security officer named Godwin was fatally attacked on Saturday evening in the Abule Ijesha neighborhood of Yaba, Lagos. The assault, carried out by individuals believed to be members of a cult, caused widespread fear in the community as gunfire erupted.
A police insider revealed that the perpetrators arrived by vehicle, approached Godwin near his workplace, and shot him in the head. Witnesses observed the attackers further striking him with an axe. The gunmen reportedly fired into the air while escaping, prompting mass alarm among locals. Local authorities have launched an investigation to track down those responsible.
Meanwhile, the anti-cultism group Naija Confra alleged that three additional individuals were injured by stray bullets during the confrontation. They claimed the suspects operated from a white Mercedes-Benz and fired indiscriminately at bystanders. However, the Lagos State Police Command has not yet confirmed these reports of secondary injuries. Attempts to reach police spokesperson CSP Abimbola Adebisi for an official statement remained unsuccessful at the time of publication.
