President Bola Tinubu has advocated for stronger national unity and collective action to combat security issues and foster long-term stability. Represented by Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibrin, the President spoke at an international gathering in Abuja titled Diversity and Social Peace: A Partnership for a Promising Future. The event was arranged by the Muslim World League and JIBWIS Nigeria.
Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria must prioritize cohesion despite internal differences. He encouraged attendees to utilize the international forum to explore strategies that could restore peace on both a regional and global scale. The President lauded the organizers for selecting Nigeria as the host, noting that the conclusions reached would likely bolster national security.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, highlighted that the country already possesses adequate solutions to its problems but lacks the necessary resolve for implementation. He stressed the importance of religious leaders fostering trust and dialogue to bridge gaps between different faiths. Similarly, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda argued that Nigeria should view its diversity as an asset, warning political figures against manipulating religious and ethnic sentiments for short-term gain.
Other speakers, including Rev. Fr. Cornelius Omonokhua of NIREC and JIBWIS leader Sheikh Abdullahi Lau, reinforced the importance of compassion and shared humanity. Sheikh Lau specifically pointed to the need for quality education and economic opportunities to protect Nigerian youth from being recruited by criminal organizations. The two-day conference seeks to encourage interfaith cooperation and social harmony across the nation.
