Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, an aspirant seeking the Abia South Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against his party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Erondu, currently serving as a lawmaker in the Abia State House of Assembly, claims his name was unlawfully replaced as the party’s official candidate for the 2027 election.
Reports suggest the APC substituted Erondu with Prince Paul Ikonne. However, Erondu maintains he is the legitimate candidate, citing his victory in the party’s direct primary held on May 18, 2026. He asserts that his nomination remains valid, noting that he neither withdrew from the race nor died, and no legal order exists to disqualify him.
Court filings identify the defendants as the APC, INEC, Prince Paul Ikonne, Dr. Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, and Mrs. Blessing Nwagba. On July 28, 2026, the court authorized Erondu to serve these individuals through substituted means at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. The matter is scheduled for continued hearing on September 9, 2026.
