Victims kidnapped during a violent raid on the Woro community in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area have finally returned to Ilorin after months of captivity. They were initially processed at the Sobi Barracks under the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division before being relocated for further care.
The kidnapping occurred in February when armed groups attacked the area, leading to mass casualties and multiple abductions. A series of military operations, primarily in Niger State, eventually secured their release. These survivors are currently under the care of the state government and are expected to meet with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq soon.
Hon. Saidu Baba-Ahmed, the state assembly representative for Gwanabe/Gweria/Bani/Adena, stated that the number of those rescued falls short of the 176 people originally taken from Woro and Nukku on February 3, 2026. Roughly 25 individuals remain missing, with reports suggesting some have died in captivity. Furthermore, Baba-Ahmed noted that children aged 13 and older were reportedly coerced into joining the criminal organizations, a detail provided by the returnees during interviews.
