On Thursday evening, four people were hurt when a fuel tanker erupted into flames while unloading at the AYM Shafa Filling Station. The station is located on Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Way in the Garki area of Abuja, situated next to the FCT-IRS building.
The Federal Fire Service reported that the tanker was transporting approximately 60,000 litres of petrol when the accident occurred. Paul Abraham, the service’s spokesperson, confirmed that emergency crews managed to put out the fire, which had started to spread to a section of the nearby three-storey FCT-IRS structure.
Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, managed the scene and stayed until Friday morning to ensure the site was secure. Four men who sustained injuries during the event were taken to a hospital by the National Emergency Management Agency for care and have since been released. Authorities have confirmed that there are no additional casualties and have begun an inquiry to identify the cause of the blaze. The agency expressed appreciation to the public and supporting organizations, such as the Nigeria Police Force and NEMA, for their help during the emergency.
