Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old Afghan boxer, has made his second appearance at a courthouse in Athens. He faces serious allegations including homicide with intent, robbery, and weapons-related charges. The investigation centers on the death of Elisabeth Ross, a 38-year-old aid worker from Edinburgh, whose body was discovered on July 18 within an abandoned building in the Kypseli district.
Ahmadzai reportedly faces claims that he illicitly obtained over €10,000 from the victim’s bank accounts. While he admitted to relocating the body, the defendant has denied the charge of homicide. Authorities allege that after the incident, he utilized Ross’s phone to contact her acquaintances, posing as an extremist to suggest her death was religiously motivated before deactivating the handset.
Reports from local media indicate that Alaina Hall, the suspect’s wife, alerted police to her suspicions after observing his absence from their shared home and tracking his movements toward the location of the crime. Ross, who had been volunteering with a refugee support group in Greece, had arrived in the country in late June. Law enforcement officials believe the victim had been deceased for several days prior to the discovery of her remains.
