The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has launched a sharp critique against Governor Seyi Makinde, suggesting that he would have liquidated the nation’s assets had he occupied the presidency. The party drew a stark contrast between Makinde and President Bola Tinubu, describing the gap between their leadership styles as vast.
This confrontation follows recent remarks by Makinde, delivered by a representative at an Allied People’s Movement event in Abeokuta, where he expressed an intention to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. In response, Oyo APC Publicity Secretary Wasiu Sadare issued a statement asserting that Nigeria narrowly avoided a catastrophe by not electing Makinde in 2023.
Sadare accused the governor of mismanaging state resources, claiming he has offloaded Oyo State assets to unsuitable buyers for profit over the past seven years. The APC spokesperson argued that while Makinde engages in political theatrics by criticizing federal economic policies, international institutions recognize Tinubu’s efforts to rescue the country from collapse. The statement concluded by alleging that Makinde’s track record in the state proves he cannot be entrusted with the national mandate.
