Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has expressed confusion regarding Chelsea’s choice to recruit Jordan Henderson on a free transfer. The move occurred after the midfielder left Brentford via mutual agreement.
Speaking on the Football Ramble podcast, Carragher stated that while the transfer benefits the 36-year-old player, it makes little sense for the club. He argued that Xabi Alonso’s squad is not improved by this signing. Addressing claims that the team requires more experience, Carragher countered that the roster needs players in their prime, specifically those aged 27 or 28, rather than older veterans.
Carragher noted that while he holds Henderson in high regard, the strategy seems disjointed. He observed that Chelsea appears to be oscillating between extremes, shifting from a focus on very young prospects to signing older players while neglecting the necessary middle-aged demographic.
