The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has clarified that Mrs. Epelle-Asemota Bridgitte Osayuki is their confirmed choice for the Edo South Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections. This statement follows an error by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which paired Osayuki’s name with the credentials and photo of a different person.
Agada Abuh Theophilus, the party’s communications director, stated that the organization properly filed all required documents with INEC. The party emphasized that candidate selection is a formal process managed through party sponsorship. They are now urging the electoral commission to explain the mix-up in the official listings.
Addressing external criticism, the party rejected efforts to frame the issue through ethnic lenses, describing itself as an inclusive national organization. Officials noted that Osayuki is well-qualified due to her career in the Edo State civil service and her history of leadership in labor unions.
To maintain party unity, the NDC has launched a reconciliation committee to address disputes from the primaries. They are encouraging all members to stay focused on the 2027 election cycle and move past internal disagreements.
