The newly appointed Enugu State Commander for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Paul Audu, has pledged to conduct an aggressive campaign against drug trafficking and substance misuse. During his initial media briefing in Enugu, Audu announced that the agency is shifting to a more forceful strategy to dismantle illegal drug networks.
Audu emphasized that the command will prioritize the seizure of assets gained through narcotics under the Proceeds of Crime Recovery and Management Act. By targeting the financial resources of traffickers, the agency aims to deter criminal activity. The commander noted that his background in asset recovery will be used to disrupt the funding behind these syndicates. He also urged the public to report any corrupt behavior by officers directly to him, promising strict accountability.
Beyond enforcement, Audu intends to expand the War Against Drug Abuse initiative by engaging local communities and youth directly. He warned that individuals involved in the illegal trade must cease their activities or risk prosecution and property forfeiture. The commander also addressed the improper sale of controlled substances, reminding vendors that these drugs can only be dispensed by licensed pharmacies with a valid prescription.
To ensure success, Audu is seeking collaboration with traditional leaders and community stakeholders for grassroots education and intelligence gathering. He stressed that the agency maintains a zero-tolerance policy for internal corruption and is fully prepared to restore public safety across the state.
