Jos Buttler etched his name into history at Old Trafford, becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket as the Manchester Super Giants secured a dominant nine-wicket win over Welsh Fire in The Hundred. Buttler surpassed Kieron Pollard’s previous record of 14,803 runs by launching a massive six into the stadium stands off the bowling of Duan Jansen. He ended his innings with an explosive 51 off just 20 deliveries, steering his team to victory with 31 balls remaining.
Earlier, Welsh Fire captain Phil Salt elected to bat after winning the toss. A strong opening partnership between Salt, who scored 48, and Matt Short, who contributed 71, helped the visitors reach a total of 155-4. However, the Super Giants’ bowlers regained control in the final stages, taking four quick wickets to stifle the Fire’s progress. Gus Atkinson proved particularly effective during this period.
In response, the Super Giants began their chase with aggressive intent. Tim Seifert anchored the pursuit with an unbeaten 62 off 36 balls, while Paul Walter provided momentum with a quick-fire 37. Despite a spectacular piece of fielding from Ben Kellaway to dismiss Walter, the Super Giants remained in command. This result moves the Manchester side into third place, closing the gap on second-placed Welsh Fire.
