The Plateau State Police Command has captured a new suspect linked to the fatal mob attack on Ibrahim Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos. This development marks a vital step in the probe into the death of Mbaya, who was killed following claims that he had stolen a phone.
SP Alfred Alabo, the police spokesperson, announced on Wednesday that officers acting on intelligence reports detained 24-year-old Yusuf Christopher Beskeni. Authorities allege that Beskeni was directly involved in the violence. He is accused of assisting the mob by tying the victim to a pole before the fatal assault occurred.
The suspect is currently being held for questioning as police intensify the search for other individuals involved in the crime. Acting Commissioner of Police DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu emphasized that the department is dedicated to securing justice for the Mbaya family and ensuring all perpetrators face legal consequences.
Following this arrest, the total number of individuals in custody has reached five. The tragic death of Mbaya on July 27 has led to public calls for an end to vigilante violence. The police are continuing to urge anyone with relevant information to contact their nearest station.
