In her second appearance for the Welsh Fire, Irish international Orla Prendergast delivered a match-winning performance, claiming 4-18 to help her team secure a three-wicket win over the Manchester Super Giants at Old Trafford. Stepping in as an injury replacement for Sophie Devine, Prendergast dismantled the Super Giants’ top order, reducing the hosts to 24-4 early in the match.
Prendergast dismissed captain Meg Lanning for a duck and removed Mady Villiers and Kathryn Bryce, while Heather Graham contributed with two stumpings. Despite a late unbeaten 18 from Ryana MacDonald-Gay, the Super Giants were restricted to 85-9. In response, Sophie Ecclestone impressed with 3-14 for Manchester, but Graham held the innings together with an unbeaten 16 to lead the Welsh Fire to 88-7 with nine balls remaining.
This result elevates Welsh Fire to fourth in the standings, while the Manchester Super Giants remain in third place. The competition continues with London Spirit set to play MI London at Lord’s on Thursday in both the women’s and men’s divisions.
