Man Shot Dead While Trying to Prove He Could ‘Dodge a Bullet’
A man was shot and killed by his friend after reportedly claiming he could “dodge a bullet” while under the influence of drugs.
The incident occurred when the 23-year-old friend, Ashton Jonathan Mann, and the deceased were smoking marijuana in the kitchen and discussing firearms, later continuing their conversation in a garage, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit.
While handling two guns, the deceased allegedly stated he could dodge a bullet. According to the affidavit, the two men unloaded the firearms, and Mann then aimed and fired one of the guns as his friend attempted to jump out of the way, trying to prove he could move before the shot was fired.
Mann said they did it around six times and “the final time the gun fired striking (his friend) in the chest”, according to the documents.
The suspect stated that he called 911 right away and tried to assist his friend until first responders arrived at the home in Kearns, Salt Lake County, Utah.

Authorities found the victim unresponsive and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Unified Police obtained a search warrant for the residence and discovered two handguns, magazines, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia consistent with marijuana use, according to the documents.
Mann was arrested around 4 a.m. on Sunday, February 2, and charged with second-degree felony manslaughter and a third-degree firearms-related charge.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
