Commuters are facing significant delays near the Anthony Village Bus Stop on Funsho Williams Avenue as Lagos authorities begin repairing the damaged service lane. This project has impacted traffic across the major corridor linking Fadeyi, Gbagada, Oshodi, and Ikorodu Road, where excavation and construction tasks are hindering vehicle speed.
For some time, this specific service lane has struggled with persistent potholes and road degradation. Heavy machinery, such as rollers and graders, is now onsite. Pedestrians are advised to be careful as parts of the walkway have been restricted.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, issued a statement on Monday requesting public patience. He explained that previous asphalt-based repairs were unsuccessful due to frequent heavy rainfall, which consistently washed away the patches. To fix this, the state is switching to durable interlocking stones. If weather permits, the work should be finished within four days.
While acknowledging the temporary struggle for travelers, the Commissioner described the project as a necessary long-term improvement. He recommended that motorists monitor traffic reports and consider other routes.
To manage the congestion, travelers moving from Fadeyi toward Gbagada and the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway are encouraged to use the Pedro route instead of the Anthony junction. Drivers using the service lane are asked to stay on the main carriageway, and those heading toward Oshodi, Anthony, or Ikorodu Road should seek out alternative local roads. Residents should anticipate delays during peak hours and consider using navigation apps to find faster paths.
