Outrage has erupted in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State following the murder of Rev. Fr. Samuel Oyetoro. The Catholic cleric, who was attached to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, was discovered on the roadside bearing multiple stab wounds inflicted by unknown attackers.
As reported by ARISE News, the community is grieving the loss of Oyetoro, who had been performing duties as a visiting priest. Before the incident, he had led Mass at the church while covering for the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Clement Wesaku. He previously served at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Egbe.
Church leadership and parishioners are calling for a swift investigation. Louis Izugwu, chairman of the church, emphasized the need for accountability for those responsible. Fowoyo John, a parish member, echoed these sentiments while expressing profound shock at the clergyman’s death.
The Kogi State Police Command has launched an official inquiry. ASP Afusat Salihu, the police spokesperson, stated that efforts are underway to identify the culprits and clarify the circumstances of the crime, promising that the perpetrators will face the law.
