Ogun State Police Commissioner, Bode Ojajuni, has issued a firm reminder to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members that their uniforms do not provide a shield against legal repercussions. The Commissioner shared this message during a visit by the state NYSC Coordinator, Adewuyi Frances, to the police headquarters in Abeokuta.
Command spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi noted that the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the police and the youth corps to ensure the safety of participants across all 20 local government areas. Commissioner Ojajuni stressed that while the police remain dedicated to safeguarding all residents, including corps members, these individuals are still subject to the law.
Drawing on his own history with the service, the Commissioner encouraged the youth to focus on developing leadership skills and discipline. He explicitly warned against engaging in criminal activity or associating with bad influences, highlighting that the uniform offers no protection if a crime is committed. As part of a broader community outreach effort, he introduced the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a program designed to steer young people away from substance abuse and cult involvement.
To illustrate the command’s commitment, the Commissioner recalled the recent rescue of 18 corps members stranded near the Ogbere–Ijebu Ode axis. Mrs. Frances praised the police force for their proactive security measures and pledged continued collaboration to maintain safety throughout the state.
