Damage reported on recently inaugurated Osogbo flyover following heavy rains

Less than three weeks after its official opening, a portion of the LAMECO flyover in Osogbo has experienced structural damage caused by sustained rainfall. The 672-metre bridge, which Governor Ademola Adeleke inaugurated on July 1, 2026, suffered a visible depression in its asphalt following eight hours of rain between Thursday and Friday. Motorists have reported cracks on the road surface, forcing traffic authorities to restrict access to the area. Commuters are now diverting to alternative routes while security officers from the Osun Amotekun Corps secure the site to prevent further incidents. Local residents have urged the state government to conduct urgent repairs to guarantee traveler safety. Meanwhile, Victor Akande, chairman of the Accord party in Osun, claimed the damage was an act of sabotage rather than a construction flaw. He alleged that political opponents are targeting public infrastructure to discredit Governor Adeleke ahead of the next election. The party has called for a formal investigation and immediate restoration of the bridge.
