Dr. George Agbakahi, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that Nigerian opposition groups lack the unity required to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections. Speaking on News Central Television, Agbakahi emphasized that electoral success relies on factors like party structure, internal harmony, and a proven record of performance.
As the leader of the Tinubu Support Organisation in the South-East, Agbakahi described the APC as one of the most cohesive political forces in Africa. He noted that the party’s national leadership, governors, and stakeholders are operating in alignment, whereas he views the opposition as fractured and self-destructing. He rejected allegations that the APC orchestrated these internal crises, asserting that the opposition is responsible for its own instability.
Agbakahi highlighted that the political environment has evolved since 2023, with the APC expanding its influence into the South-East and South-South regions. He projected that President Bola Tinubu would secure re-election based on tangible achievements, specifically citing economic reforms, significant foreign capital inflows, and trade surpluses. Furthermore, he highlighted that the current administration has prioritized national security by allocating approximately N5.41 trillion to the defense sector.
Ultimately, Agbakahi argued that the opposition offers little beyond criticism and lacks fresh policy alternatives. He dismissed their potential to sway voters, suggesting that the electorate is uninterested in familiar political figures who fail to present a new vision for the country.
