The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally blamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the escalating levels of poverty and hunger across Nigeria. The party asserts that the administration’s current economic trajectory is failing and has called on the President to either pivot his strategies or vacate his position.
Referencing data from the World Bank and the World Food Programme, the ADC highlighted that 139 million citizens now fall below the poverty threshold, while 17 million suffer from severe food insecurity. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, argued that these figures expose the inadequacy of the government’s reforms. Despite official assertions regarding increased revenue and economic growth, the party maintains that these metrics provide no tangible benefits to the average Nigerian.
The ADC criticized the government for prioritizing abstract statistics over the actual survival of the population. They dismissed reliance on short-term palliative measures, calling instead for structural changes to boost agricultural production, lower energy costs, and secure farming regions. The party proposed an alternative agenda focused on long-term investments in healthcare, education, and irrigation infrastructure.
Ultimately, the opposition party emphasized that hunger serves as an undeniable indicator of economic failure. They concluded that until daily life improves for the average family, the government’s claims of progress will remain hollow to the public.
