Plateau State survivor recounts tragic loss of family in Kum village attack

A survivor of a brutal attack in Plateau State describes the loss of his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and infant grandchild at the hands of armed assailants.

James Yohanna, one of the few survivors of a deadly assault on Kum village in the Rim District of Riyom, Plateau State, has shared his traumatic experience. The incident involved the massacre of nine members of his family by armed attackers.

Yohanna reported that the assailants, who communicated in Fulfulde, specifically targeted his residence. He believes the violence was motivated by his connection to Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations in Barkin Ladi. During the late-night raid, the attackers demanded to know the location of the family patriarch before opening fire.

Recounting the sequence of events, Yohanna described hearing the intruders break into his brother’s home before proceeding to his own property. He witnessed the group execute his son, his son’s wife, and his infant grandchild after the attackers ignored pleas for mercy. Yohanna managed to flee by jumping through a window with his six-year-old daughter. Upon returning after the assailants departed, he discovered that his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchild, and six daughters had been killed.
