Sir Garfield Sobers, the iconic West Indies all-rounder frequently cited as the premier cricketer in history, has passed away at the age of 89. Throughout a Test career spanning from 1954 to 1974, he participated in 93 matches, accumulating 8,032 runs alongside 235 wickets.

As an electrifying left-handed batsman, he famously recorded 365 not out versus Pakistan in 1958, a feat that remained the highest individual Test score for over three decades. Sobers was equally distinguished for his adaptability, effectively operating as both a spin and seam bowler.

Beyond his international contributions, he competed for Nottinghamshire in the county championship, where he famously achieved the milestone of hitting six sixes in a single over during 1968. Acknowledged for his immense impact on the sport, he was knighted in 1975 and later selected as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the 20th Century.
