Kiran Kaur, the mother of convicted killer Vickrum Digwa, received a three-year prison sentence for removing the knife used in the stabbing of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak. The victim, who was walking home in Southampton on December 3, 2025, died after being stabbed five times by Digwa. Digwa was previously sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years.
Southampton Crown Court heard that Kaur, 53, took the 21cm blade from the scene and hid it among a collection of other weapons in her son’s bedroom. Judge William Mousley KC condemned her actions, stating that a parent should have encouraged their child to act responsibly rather than helping to conceal evidence. Prosecution described her role as critical, noting that police did not locate the weapon until a week after the murder.
The defense argued that Kaur acted out of an instinctive, split-second desire to protect her son. Meanwhile, the case has sparked significant controversy regarding the police handling of the incident. Footage revealed that officers handcuffed the dying teenager while responding to false claims of self-defense made by Digwa. Hampshire police have issued an apology to the Nowak family, and an investigation into the conduct of two officers is ongoing. Protests followed the release of the bodycam footage, leading to multiple arrests and injuries among law enforcement.
