Thirty-seven-year-old Henry Nwoko appeared at the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos this Friday to face accusations of forging a letter confirming non-indebtedness. Nwoko, who faces two counts related to forgery and disruptive behavior, entered a plea of not guilty.
Prosecutor ASP Simon Njue informed the court that the incident took place during February at the Advance Microfinance Bank located on Egbeda-Idimu Road. Authorities claim Nwoko created and distributed a counterfeit clearance document using the bank’s identity without receiving proper approval. This action is alleged to have potentially incited public disturbance.
The charges align with Sections 365 and 168(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015. Under these provisions, forgery carries a potential three-year prison sentence, while causing a breach of peace is punishable by up to two years. Magistrate F.R. Ogunkoyode set the defendant’s bail at N1.5 million, requiring two reliable sureties. The legal proceedings are scheduled to resume on August 11.
