A three-year-old boy who suffered severe injuries during a crocodile attack at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire has successfully undergone his seventh operation. Doctors performed a nerve graft on the child’s arm, utilizing tissue from his leg in hopes of restoring function to his left hand. The procedure marks a significant point in his recovery following the incident on 18 June, which left him with extensive trauma to his head, face, neck, and both arms.
His family expressed relief, noting that the young boy is now engaging with medical staff and smiling, a stark contrast to their initial fears when faced with life-altering consent forms shortly after the attack. A fundraising campaign to support his care has already exceeded £67,500.
Legal proceedings regarding the incident remain ongoing. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk, who did not know the child, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities have released him on bail until 18 September, citing that he was unfit for questioning due to learning disabilities. Multiple investigations are currently examining the oversight of the arrested individual, involving both the Care Quality Commission and Norfolk County Council.
