Atiku Abubakar Demands Tinubu’s Resignation Following BCDA Leadership Standoff

Atiku Abubakar has called for President Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 election, citing the persistent failure to replace the head of the BCDA as evidence of administrative incompetence.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the ongoing leadership impasse at the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA). President Bola Ahmed Tinubu previously announced that Dakorinama Alabo George, an ally of Nyesom Wike, would be replaced by former lawmaker Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as the agency’s Director General. Despite this directive, George remains in his post weeks after the announcement.

Speaking through his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku argued that the situation highlights a lack of presidential authority. He characterized the incident as a source of national embarrassment that undermines Nigeria’s reputation among global investors and development partners. Atiku expressed concern that a government unable to manage its own internal appointments cannot be viewed as a serious destination for investment.

The former presidential candidate stated that the confusion at the BCDA is part of a broader pattern of governance failures under the current administration. He challenged President Tinubu to stop focusing on the 2027 election and instead address the country’s economic hardships. Ultimately, Atiku suggested that if the president cannot resolve these institutional contradictions, he should acknowledge his shortcomings and exit the next presidential race.
