Kogi High Court Refutes Claims of NDC Deregistration Order

The Kogi State High Court denies reports that it ordered the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, labeling the viral social media claims as false.

The Kogi State High Court has officially refuted reports suggesting it mandated the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Saqeeb Saeed, the Court’s Chief Information Officer, dismissed the allegations on Thursday, labeling them as inaccurate and deceptive.

The judiciary clarified that it has not presided over any litigation concerning the registration status of the NDC or any other political entity. Officials noted that the claims circulating online did not stem from their institution.

Authorities expressed particular concern over a viral image featuring Chief Judge Josiah Joe Majebi and former Governor Yahaya Bello. The court characterized this pairing as a calculated effort to falsely imply judicial involvement in the party’s status. While the court typically ignores social media rumors, it issued this statement to safeguard the reputation of the judicial system.

The court warned content creators against spreading unverified reports that could erode public trust. They maintained that the institution is dedicated to impartial justice and urged the public to dismiss the misinformation.

These events follow a June ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which overturned a previous decision requiring the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the NDC. The court cited procedural errors for that ruling. The NDC, which has since filed an appeal and a stay of execution, insists it remains a valid political organization.
