Kogi authorities launch rescue operation following kidnapping at secondary school

Kogi state officials have deployed a large-scale security operation to rescue a school principal, a NECO staffer, and two students abducted during exams in Dekina Local Government Area.

The Kogi State Government has initiated a coordinated security response to recover a school principal, a NECO official, and two students seized during exams at Government Secondary School, Olowa. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the mission, which is managed by State Security Adviser Jerry Omodara.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the names of those held as Principal Daniel Iyanaa, official Solomon Audu, and students identified as Dorcas Sunday and another female peer. Initially, five individuals were taken, but authorities successfully rescued one person and are actively tracking the remaining captives.

Multiple security branches are involved, including the Nigerian Army, police, Department of State Services, and local vigilante groups. Official reports indicate that high-tech tracking methods are currently being employed. Investigations revealed that the school was operating as an unauthorized center for external students, failing to meet official state security protocols for the exams. The government has vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure the safe return of all victims.
