Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, recently emphasized that Nigeria must prioritize engineering, innovation, and technology to achieve lasting industrial and economic success. Speaking at the 34th Engineering Assembly organized by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in Abuja, Yilwatda highlighted that engineering is vital for national growth.
As an engineer himself, Yilwatda noted that the assembly’s theme, “Shaping Solutions, Building a Greater Future,” highlights the duty of professionals to solve national issues through technology. He argued that engineers should combine technical skills with leadership and ethics to create better infrastructure. He also urged the government to invest heavily in engineering education and research, noting that international success stories often stem from empowering scientists and engineers.
Yilwatda linked engineering to the success of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly regarding infrastructure, rail, power, and the digital economy. He encouraged engineers to adopt modern tools like artificial intelligence and robotics, while calling for closer partnerships between the government, private sector, and academic institutions. Finally, he praised COREN for maintaining professional standards and expressed optimism that the assembly’s outcomes would provide a roadmap for Nigeria’s industrial future.
