Nigeria Achieves 104% of OPEC Oil Target as Output Reaches 74-Month Peak

Nigeria has reached 104 percent of its OPEC production quota, with crude output hitting a 74-month high of 1.56 million barrels per day in June 2026.

Nigeria saw its total output of crude oil and condensate climb to an average of 1,735,398 barrels per day throughout June 2026. This marks the fourth straight month of production gains for the nation, according to Eniola Akinkuotu, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

Of this total, 1.56 million barrels per day consisted of crude oil, allowing Nigeria to reach 104 percent of the quota assigned by OPEC. When looking exclusively at crude oil, the June performance represents the highest level for the country since April 2020, setting a 74-month record.

Daily production peaked at 1.89 million barrels during the month, signaling that reaching a 2 million barrel per day milestone is feasible. This steady increase follows a pattern of growth starting in February. The primary factors behind this success include consistent operations across major assets and a lack of significant pipeline disruptions.

While some assets faced brief maintenance or shutdowns, these issues had negligible effects on national output. Key facilities such as the Bonny and Forcados terminals saw increases in output, contributing significantly to the overall rise. Meanwhile, other sites like the Qua Iboe terminal reported slight decreases compared to the previous month.
