A violent shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival in Toronto resulted in two fatalities and left four additional people wounded. The incident took place at approximately 8:12 p.m. on St. Clair Avenue, where an estimated 13,000 attendees had gathered for the cultural celebration.
Toronto Deputy Police Chief Francisco Barredo reported that the gunfire likely stemmed from a conflict between two individuals. Although police recovered two weapons at the scene, no suspects were in custody following the event. Emergency responders found six victims suffering from gunshot wounds, two of whom died at the location.
Investigators are currently examining three distinct crime scenes and have requested that the public submit any captured media or information to assist in the case. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford both expressed deep sorrow and condemned the violence, urging that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
The Salsa on St. Clair festival, which celebrated its 22nd year, serves as an annual tribute to Latin American music and dance. Security measures were increased in the surrounding area while authorities continue their inquiry.
