Manager Andy Moran believes Mayo has not yet reached its full potential, even after a commanding 17-point victory against Louth secured the team’s first All-Ireland SFC final appearance in five years.
Moran has focused on merging youthful energy with seasoned experience this season, highlighting players such as Kobe McDonald alongside established veterans. Although the team struggled during the Connacht semi-final loss to Roscommon, their performance has steadily improved throughout the All-Ireland series.
The victory over Louth was defined by clinical attacking moves and defensive pressure that created multiple scoring opportunities. Moran praised his defensive unit for their dedication to learning and improvement. He noted the impact of young players like 19-year-old Eoin McGreal performing well at Croke Park, while acknowledging the leadership qualities of Ryan O’Donoghue, Enda Hession, Jack Coyne, and Donnacha McHugh.
The manager also addressed concerns regarding kick-outs, noting that Mayo successfully challenged Louth in that area. Beyond the tactical success, Moran expressed satisfaction in revitalizing the Mayo fan base, which showed immense support throughout the match. Reaching the final was a primary goal, but the team is now set on claiming the ultimate prize against either Kerry or Dublin.
