Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that his administration is committed to the immediate reunion and recovery of the teachers and pupils who recently regained their freedom after 56 days of captivity in the Oriire Local Government Area. The governor shared his sentiments on X, emphasizing the necessity of providing both physical and mental health support to help the survivors heal from their prolonged abduction.
Makinde expressed gratitude toward the security personnel involved in the mission, highlighting their professionalism and the sacrifices made to ensure the victims’ release. He also offered condolences for those who lost their lives during the efforts to secure the captives. The rescue followed a strategic operation confirmed by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who noted that eight suspects were captured by the DSS while others were neutralized. Notably, the government refused to comply with ransom demands involving the release of a detained criminal leader.
In a statement released by the Presidency, the rescued individuals thanked President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in securing their liberty. The President acknowledged the successful mission, commending the security forces for their decisive action.
